WHERE IS MY TRX SUSPENSION TRAINER'S SERIAL NUMBER LOCATED? Your serial number is located on the product. It is hidden underneath one of the rubber badges that sit directly above the handles. Slide the badge up to view the serial number. Using TRX Manager with Ethernet to Serial port Server 6 messages. I am experimenting with setup of a serial port server to use at my remote site. LP-StepLink
LP-StepLink is a freeware application that gets transmit freq datafromTRX-Manager through OLE or Commander from DXLabs throughDDE, and thenrelays it to the SteppIR control box by 'emulating' a Kenwood radioovera computer serial port. This allows connecting any rig supportedby TRX-Manager or Commander to SteppIR with a consistentinterface, and at the same time allows computer control and logging. Theantennatuning follows freq adjustments either at the rig, or from theloggingprogram. This program can run in the background, and the only inputfromthe user is to specify the com port the SteppIR box is connected to andthe source program for frequency.
Unlike using a Y cable to control the SteppIR, using LP-StepLink hasseveral advantages...
Simple one-cable interface.
Use with any rig supported by the logging programs
Allows the SteppIR to be controlled by multiple rigs by following therig selection in the logging program
Fixes retuning of SteppIR in split mode by only supplying transmitfrequency to the SteppIR
Adds hysteresis to prevent SteppIR from retuning constantly at themiddle of the SteppIR 50 kHz tuning windows
LP-StepLink works with any SteppIR antenna including the verticals, and MonstIR. All that is required is a 3-wire female-to-female nullmodemserial cable and a spare COM port on your computer. Shown below areLP-StepLinknormal and setup windows.

LP-StepLink ver. 1.1 is available for download on the Downloadspage.

In response to recent changes in the serialinterfaceon the SteppIR controller, I have created a software Virtual ControlPanel(VCP) which will allow control of the supported serial controlfunctionson the SteppIR controller. These functions include...
Set Frequency
Set Direction (Normal, 180, Bi-Directional, 3/4wave)
Home
Calibrate
Enable xcvr interface
Disable xcvr interface
Frequency Status
Direction Status
Motor Activity Status
There are three 'views' available for theprogram. The compact view shown above, the diagnostic view that's shownbelow and a full view that looks like the diagnostic view without theReceived String window. The diagnsotic view shows the hex responsesfrom the controller for troubleshooting. To keepthingsfamiliar, I chose to copy the basic SteppIR controller with a fewexceptions.Because of the way commands are implemented, I was able to change the180and Bi-Dir to two separate buttons to eliminate the need to cyclethroughBi-Dir when reversing the beam. I also used a more visible red TUNINGindicatoras opposed to an asterisk.
The SteppIR VCP always shows the current status of the SteppIR it'scontrolling. When new frequencies are sent to the controller, or whenfunctions such as 180, Bi-Dir and3/4are sent, the status LED indicators only change when the command hasbeenreceived and accepted.
The Setup screen allows selection of com port, baud rate, statuspollingrate and antenna type. The antenna type determines the allowable tuningrange of frequencies sent to the controller. When sending frequencydatato the SteppIR controller's DataOut port, strange frequencies can windup being displayed if they are outside the controllers design range. NoSteppIR currently tunes 80m, but a future option for the BiggIR willincludethis feature.
For more detail, check out the N8LP SteppIR VCP helpfile. To download the SteppIR VCP go to the downloadspage.SteppIRVirtual Control Panel for SDA100 controller.
This version is designed to support the new SDA100 controller. Most ofthe information in the above section is still valid, but there are somedifferences. I plan to update this section soon, but in the meantime, here are the relevant differences in no paticular order...
Norm, 180, BI, 3/4 are implemented differently to echo the changes tothe SDA100 front panel.
There are now two sets of Up/Dn buttons. One for 50 kHz steps and onefor 10 kHz steps.
The Antenna Type selection on the Setup page has changed to allowselection of minimum frequency for your antenna (80m, 40m, 20m).
VCP can be used simultaneously with a transceiver interface now,but keep in mind that any frequency commands from VCP will be overridenby the transceiver.
Trx Manager Serial Key
Below are brief descriptions of each mode. See regular VCP forfunctions not covered here...Home... Retracts the elements and turns off Xcvr Interface. To restore, turn on Xcvr interface. If connected to a rig, the beam will tune tothe rig's frequency. If not, select a band button on VCP to tune to aband. If operating remotely, be sure to leave about a minute for thisprocess to complete. The Tuning indicator will return to normal whencomplete.
Calibrate... Performs calibration sequence. If operating remotely, besure to leave about 2 minutes for this process to complete. The Tuningindicator will return to normal when complete.
AutoTrack... Allows the controller to accept frequency data from VCPor the rig. Controls the AutoUpdate mode on the SDA100.
Trx Manager Serial Killer
ManualTrack... Blocks the controller from receiving frequency datafrom VCP or the rig. Controls the AutoUpdate mode on the SDA100.Norm... Switches the direction to Normal.
180... Switches the direction to Normal.
BI... Switches the direction to Bi-Directional
3/4... Switches vertical to 3/4 wave mode.
Trx Manager Crack
Band Buttons... Tune directly to the center of the chosen band.
UP/DN Buttons... Fine tune the antenna in 50 kHz or 10 kHz steps.
